At least 73 armed insurgents were killed in the past 24 hours across the country during Afghan security forces operations, the ministry of interior claimed in a statement on Saturday.
According to the statement the operations were conducted in Helmand, Kandahar, Kunduz, Badakhshan, Uruzgan, Badghis, Baghlan, Balkh and Samangan provinces.
A number of areas in these provinces were cleared of insurgents during the operations, the MoI said.
According to the statement, 27 insurgents were also wounded and 11 were arrested. Among those killed was Mullah Anamullah, the Taliban’s shadow district governor for Kaldar district of Balkh province, said the MoI.
The ministry did not however give details of military or civilian casualties.
