Afghan forces have been put on "red alert" to "crush" any threat and provide security to the people across the country during the Eid days, the Afghan Ministry of Interior said on Saturday.

Interior Ministry spokesman Tariq Aryan said that in the past three months, police opened over 3,000 criminal cases, and, as a result, police arrested over 3,500 criminals from various parts of the country.

“Our security forces are ordered to be on red alert across Afghanistan. We can assure you that the police are fully ready across Afghanistan to ensure security during Eid days,” said MoI spokesman Tariq Aryan.

But residents in Kabul have said that police aren't able to protect the public against crimes.

“The Interior Ministry has the responsibility to provide security to the people because over the past three or four days there has been a rise in suicide attacks,” said Haseebullah, a resident in Kabul.

“This year there are a lot of threats, they must work to mend this situation so that the people can live in peace,” said Abdullah, a resident in Kabul.

“Yesterday, armed robbers looted a man in front of his house at around 9:00 am,’ said Faraidoon, a resident in Kabul.

This comes days after Kabul, Nangarhar, Ghazni and Parwan province saw some of the deadliest attacks since the start of the year. The attacks left dozens of civilians killed and wounded, including women and the children.

Muslims in Afghanistan and around the world are preparing to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Sunday. The Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
