Afghan Security Institutions Face Criticism After Kabul Blast

Military experts and members of the public on Thursday accused the Afghan security and intelligence agencies of failing to protect the people from the terror attacks and for failing to respond effectively after the attack.

Referring to the blast that targeted the convoy of First Vice President Amrullah Saleh on Wednesday morning in Kabul city, experts said that the security institutions should have convened a meeting after the attack and communicated to the nation about it.

Hamdullah Mohib, the national security adviser, has linked the attack to the enemies of Afghanistan.

Critics said that attack on VP Saleh was an attack on the dignity and status of Afghanistan.

“The attack on Amrullah Saleh is an attack on the honor of the country, it is an attack on the reputation of the nation,” said military analyst Atiqullah Amarkhel.

“Those terrorist groups that operate in Mohammad Agha, come and go and then conduct their operations in Kabul,” said Daud Amin, a military expert in Kabul.

Meanwhile, Second Vice President Mohammad Sarwar Danish, during a press conference in Kabul, condemned the attack on Saleh.

“We condemn this inhuman and terrorist attack,” said Danish.

Members of the victims' families said they have become tired of merely verbal condemnations of attacks.

“The Afghan government only made a verbal condemnation of the attack, the govt should have convened a meeting of the National Security Council,” said Hesamuddin, a resident in Kabul.

“For God's sake, take responsibility for the security of Afghanistan. How long should the poor people be the victims?” asked one resident, Jamaluddin Paiman.

Saleh previously served as the head of the National Directorate of Security (NDS), but he was dismissed from the job following a rocket attack on consultative Loya Jirga in Kabul in 2010.
