Afghan Weather Officials Forecast More Rain

Afghanistan's Meteorological Department has forecast more rains in Nangarhar, Kabul and the Wakhan area of northern Badakhshan province in the next 24 hours.

This comes as flash floods hit several provinces of Afghanistan in the past 24 hours killing over 110 people and injuring more than 150, by latest reports.

The Afghanistan Meteorological Department claimed that it had warned on Tuesday against heavy rains and flooding in the affected areas, including Parwan province.

However, the people in the affected areas said they were not informed about the possibility of flooding and rainfalls.

“They did not provide us any information before, but now they claim that they informed us. If they had informed us, the people wouldn’t have suffered this major devastation,” said Wahab Khan, a survivor.

The Meteorological Department says that the recent floods in Afghanistan are caused by climate change.

“Floods are expected in some parts of Nangarhar, Kunar and some areas in Badakhshan in the next 24 hours,” said Mohammad Juma, a member of Afghan Meteorological Department.

Officials of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) have said that recent flooding in various regions of Afghanistan have left massive human and economic losses.

“We have taken a series of measures. 25,000 afs was distributed among the wounded people, 50,000 afs was distributed to the families of those killed in Parwan province where we had the majority of the casualties,” said Mohammad Qasim Haidari, the deputy State Minister of Natural Disaster Management.

ANDMA said that the government is considering a 22 million afs fund for those affected by the recent floods in Parwan, adding that 313 villages across the country are facing imminent threats from natural disasters.

Over 4,000 people were badly affected by the floods in Parwan, according to the government.
