Afghanistan Violence: 9 Civilians Killed in Latest Incidents

Despite international calls for a reduction of violence in Afghanistan, violence and war continue to grip the Afghan people in various regions of the country, inflicting a high death toll.

On Saturday, at least 9 civilians were killed and eight more wounded in separate incidents in Ghazni, Faryab and Maidan Wardak provinces.

At least six civilians were killed and eight more were wounded in a roadside bomb explosion in the Dara-e-Qiaq area of Jaghatu district of Ghazni province, said Wahidullah Jumazada, a spokesman for Ghazni's governor.

The incident occurred after a vehicle carrying civilians in the area struck a roadside bomb and women and children were among the casualties, said Jumazada.

No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack.

Meanwhile, Mohibullah Sharifzai, a spokesman for the Maidan Wardak governor, said that three members of a family were killed as a result of a mortar round hitting their house in Sultankhel village of Sayedabad district on Saturday.

“A man and his two sons are among the victims,” said Sharifzai.

He said that a probe team has been assigned to investigate which warring side fired the mortar round.

However, local residents who gathered in front of a military base in Maidan Wardak accused the government forces of firing the mortar.

In Faryab district, a man killed his two daughters and one son in a stabbing incident in PD2 of the provincial capital Maimana, police confirmed.

Police in Faryab said that the incident was an act of domestic violence.

Police have arrested the attacker who is a drug addict.
