The Ministry of Information and Culture's director of publications, Abdul Haq Hemad, said that some media-supporting organizations receive a significant amount of money in the name of journalists, and are not using the funds appropriately.
Hemad asked media-supporting institutions to distribute the money collected in the name of journalists in a transparent manner to the journalists, at a meeting that was hosted by Afghanistan's Journalists Organizations and Media Federation to find ways to improve the media in the nation.
This Ministry of Information and Culture officer issued a warning that if the institutions supporting the media are not brought under one umbrella and the rights of journalists are violated, the government will dissolve all these institutions.
"Either you all unite, or we dissolve it all and establish new organizations so that the rights of journalists are not exploited and deal-making stops ...The projects and funding must transparently reach the right people (journalists) in front of the camera and the public,” Abdul Haq Hemad noted.
Speaking at the meeting, Hemad pledged support to the media and journalists.
The Journalists Organizations and Media Federation of Afghanistan report indicates that there is now more access to information than in the past.
"Access to information has increased in the second half of 2022, and the spokespeople for government agencies are giving the media more information," said Taj Mohammad Ahmadzai, Afghanistan's Journalist Organizations and Media Federation.
However, several journalists said that there are still several issues with information access.
"One of our main restrictions is access to information; sadly, we don't have access to more information,” said Shakib Ahmad Nazari, a journalist.
"It is difficult for us every time we go to the ministry to prepare a report,” said Yalda Jahangir Afghan, a journalist.
The Afghanistan's Journalists Organizations and Media Federation, in a joint resolution asked the Ministry of Information and Culture to prevent the interference of irresponsible institutions in the work of the media.
