Ahmad Shah, a BBC Pashto reporter, was shot dead in Khost province on Monday afternoon at 4pm local time, officials confirmed. 

Journalists in Khost province confirmed the death of Ahmad Shah and said he was shot by unknown armed men who were riding a motorcycle. 

Ahmad Shah was killed in Khost city while he was on his way home, journalists said.

Ahmad Shah joined BBC a year ago and was based in Khost.

This comes after nine journalists were killed in an explosion earlier in the day in Kabul.

The Taliban said it was not responsible for the shooting.

Ahmad Shah leaves a wife, whom he married only six months ago. 

Monday’s shooting of the BBC journalist comes after Kabul News journalist Abdul Manan Arghand was shot dead on Wednesday last week.

Two unknown gunmen on motorcycles shot Arghand in Kandahar while he was driving to work.
