Border police seized six young lions at Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar province on Monday in what was believed to be an attempt to smuggle them in to Pakistan. 

Four of the lions were handed over to the Kabul Zoo and the other two will be transferred to Kabul in the near future, said Border Police Commander Gen. Nematullah Haidari.

He said the lions are of African origin.
