CEO’s Concern Over His Authority ‘The Reason For The Rift’

Undelivered promises remain one of the key problems for the National Unity Government (NU) , said Sayed Aqa Hussain Fazel Sancharaki, a top advisor to Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah.

He said that the special authorities of the CEO continue to remain a problem for government and is the core reason for the political rift between the CEO and President Ashraf Ghani.

“The main issue is the authorities of the chief executive particularly when it comes to the issue of appointments and financial authority,” added Sancharaki.

Meanwhile, Integrity Watch Afghanistan (IWA) has also said that the present government has failed to fulfill its key promises to the nation including stamping out endemic corruption and delaying the rollout of digital national identity cards.

“Overall nothing has changed in the institutions despite their commitments to bring transparency. Reforms were not institutionalized in these institutions,” said IWA chairman Sayed Ekram Afzali.

Bringing about systematic reforms in Afghanistan’s election law, rolling out digital ID cards and the establishment of a constitution amendment commission were among the key promises made by the leaders of the +national unity government.

“The root cause of the problems are related to the rifts and disputes between government leaders and this deterred them from delivering on the promises,” said MP Mohammad Abdoh.

Improving the overall security climate of Afghanistan, poverty alleviation programs, restructuring Afghanistan’s socioeconomic infrastructure, creating new jobs and implementing fundamental reforms in the legal and judicial institutions were also pre and post-election promises made by the two leaders.
