Daesh Shadow Governor for Jawzjan Arrested

Mullah Baz Mohammad, the shadow governor for Daesh for northern Jawzjan province was arrested by security forces while he was recruiting at a mosque on Tuesday, local officials said.

Baz Mohammad reportedly traveled from eastern Nangarhar province to Jawzjan to start up activities and recruit people, a spokesman for the provincial governor, Mohammad Reza Ghafoori, said.

"He wanted to increase Daesh activities in the north of Afghanistan," Ghafoori said.

On Sunday, the United States Defense Department confirmed the death of Daesh leader Hafiz Saeed in a drone strike in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province.

Quoted by U.S media, Pentagon spokesman Gordon Trowbridge said the leader of the terrorist group in Afghanistan and Pakistan was killed by a U.S drone strike last month.

He said that Hafiz Saeed died on July 26 from an airstrike in Nangarhar.

In the past two years, Daesh insurgents have increased their activities in the country especially in eastern parts of Afghanistan.
