Elections officially got underway in Kandahar city on Saturday but at some polling centers in the provincial capital, ballot boxes were still being delivered to polling stations long after they were due to open.
Polling stations and centers were scheduled to open at 7am but TOLOnews got footage of police offloading ballot boxes at one center in the city at about 8.30am.
At another center, well over a hundred people lined the street outside the polling venue waiting for it to open.
Kandahar police have meanwhile assured the people of security during elections.
Local reporters said that the people’s participation is widespread but that the voting process only got underway at about 8am and at some female voting centers at abou 9am.
The rest of the country voted last weekend but Kandahar’s voting was postponed for a week following provincial police chief Gen Abdul Rashid who was assassinated recently.
