Ghani Calls For Women To Partake In Peace Talks Process

President Ashraf Ghani on Tuesday said during a meeting with Afghan Women’s Network that the presence of women and their views on the peace process and as part of the consultative peace council process is important, the Presidential Palace said in a statement.

According to the statement, during this meeting Roshan Mashal, networking manager of Afghan Women's Network and Mariam Rahmani, a member of the network, shared their views and suggestions in relation to peace with Ghani and said Afghan women want lasting peace and want to play an active role in promoting a culture of peace.

The network also asked Ghani whether women will be active in all negotiations and talks, and said specialists should be included in the peace process. They said achievements gained in the past 17 years should not be sacrificed in these talks.

According the statement Ghani thanked women for their widespread participation in standing as candidates in the recent parliamentary elections and said a peace council board is being set up for the purpose of peace talks. He said it was important for women to be included on this board.  

The president also called on the Afghan Women's Network members to share their plans and ideas on peace talks with the Presidential Palace within the next three days, read the statement.
