President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday visited Ghazni city and made a speech acknowledging the danger facing the province. 

During his visit, at least four Afghan civilians were wounded in rocket attacks on Ghazni city as Ghani was in the province meeting with local officials. 

This is Ghani’s third provincial visit since his inauguration as president on March 9. Previously, Ghani visited Kapisa and Logar provinces.

TOLOnews spoke with those injured in the attack.

“A customer came in I moved to give him the things when an explosion happened, then I saw my cousin lying on the ground,” said Faisal, a shopkeeper in Ghazni who was wounded in the rocket attack.

“I was in the shop when the attack happened and I was wounded,” said Mohammad, a Ghazni resident.

Meanwhile, a member of Ghazni provincial council members said that six districts in the province are facing threats.

“Six districts are under the siege; there are problems in the three districts which are relatively peaceful,” said Amanullah Kamrani, the deputy head of Ghazni provincial council.

During the trip, Ghani also pledged to address the security issues facing the Kabul-Kandahar highway.

“We have seen widespread attacks during the president’s trips; overall this shows the weakness of the security sector,” said Rubina Jalali, a member of Afghan parliament.

 No individual or group has so far accepted responsibility for the rocket attacks on Ghazni.

In the US-Taliban peace agreement, signed between the two sides on February 29, the Taliban committed to not stage major attacks on the provincial capitals.
