Govt to Add More Restrictions to Kabul Lockdown

Following a surge in the number of positive cases of coronavirus in Kabul and the death of one person from the virus, the governor of Kabul on Saturday said that the government will impose more restrictions in the city.

“We will arrest the violators and will put them in quarantine. We will also ask their employer to fine them,” said Yaqoub Haidari, the governor of Kabul.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, 41 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Kabul so far.

Meanwhile, the Kabul police headquarters the police will be more serious in enforcing the restrictions in the city.

“Our countrymen have not respected the quarantine in a real way, there will be more serious measures starting tomorrow,” said Mohammad Daud Mirzayee, the deputy commander of the Kabul police.

Some people meanwhile said that they are coming out of their homes because of economic hardships.

“The people do not have a powerful economy to stay at home. Like myself-- I hardly manage to earn 100 Afs a day to feed my family,” said Farhad, a street seller in Kabul.

“We know there is the virus and there is a problem, but we are compelled to go out for work to pay the rent and find bread,” said Amanullah, a citizen in Kabul.

So far 299 positive cases of coronavirus have been registered in Afghanistan with the majority of the cases in Herat province. 7 people so far have lost their lives because of the illness.
