Hizb-e-Islami leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar left Kabul for Turkey on Tuesday morning, a source close to Hekmatyar said.
According to the source, after visiting Turkey Hekmatyar will travel to Saudi Arabia.
This is Hekmatyar’s first trip out of the country following a peace agreement signed between him and the National Unity Government (NUG) last year.
No details have been given about his trip or who he is expected to meet.
Hekmatyar has, since signing the peace deal, repeatedly emphasized the need for peace in Afghanistan.
He has also called on all parties involved in the conflict to come together and join the peace process.
