Hospital Attack: More Than 10 People Arrested

More than 10 people, including a security officer of the hospital, have been arrested in relation to the recent attack on Sardar Mohammad Daud Khan military hospital in Kabul for which Daesh has claimed responsibility.

Officials of the hospital told a TOLOnews journalist that the primary findings show that the attack was masterminded three months prior and was carried out with the help of people from inside the hospital.

“Since the day of the attack, security officials have been working on the investigation and between 10 and 12 people have been arrested,” said Asif Bromand, surgeon of the hospital.

According to a number of doctors and soldiers, the terrorists were completely familiar with the hospital. They even knew names of the doctors.

An Afghan National Army soldier said: “Terrorists were knocking on the door and called out names of the doctors. They were firing pistols.”

“It was very dangerous and horrible. I had not seen such a situation in my life. They had white clothes (doctor’s clothing) and we never thought they were terrorists,” said Siama, doctor.

“I saw a terrorist on the fifth floor shooting a worker and then I hid myself,” said Aidi Mohammad, a doctor.

Terrorists first detonated their explosive device near the hospital.

“17 hospital staff members were trapped on the upper floor. The suicide attacker had three hand grenades. He told them to get out, they answered that we are workers and then he exploded his explosive device,” Bromand said.

“From the moment that the attack happened, I told myself that that 100% of the students (doctor students) were involved in the attack,” said Sayed Abbas Mangal, commander of the military medical academy.

The hospital is equipped with surveillance cameras and its protection measures are very high.

“We asked Siyawash (medical person responsible for the hospital) about officials who had signed the accused doctor’s appointment in such an important place,” Mohammad Hashim Alokozay, head of defense commission of Meshrano Jirga said.

Attack on military hospital is one of the deadliest and complicated terrorist attacks to have been carried out in Afghanistan. It is still not known who helped the terrorists to enter the hospital.
