HPC Reacts To US Decision On Iran Nuclear Deal

Afghanistan’s High Peace Council (HPC) on Tuesday said the US’s decision to withdraw from Iran’s nuclear deal is a regretful movement, saying that he hopes this act will not affect the Afghan peace process.

“We are sorry that such a situation happened, because peace and stability in the region is in our favor, but we hope that the situation will not affect the peace process in Afghanistan,” HPC chairman Mohammad Karim Khalili said.

Meanwhile, Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Afghanistan will try to maintain its friendly relations with the two countries.

“World and regional countries see Afghanistan as an economic region and a country which connects regions,” said Sebghat Ahmadi, deputy spokesman for Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

An analyst said an increase of political tension between Iran and US will provide the ground for interference of intelligence groups of neighboring countries in Afghanistan.

“The increase in tensions showed that countries in the region, particularly Afghanistan’s neighbors including Iran, is pessimistic and it is not in favor of Afghanistan,” military affairs analyst Mirza Mohammad Yarmand said.

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday pulled the United States out of an international nuclear deal with Iran, raising the risk of conflict in the Middle East, upsetting European allies and casting uncertainty over global oil supplies, Reuters reported.

Trump said in a televised address from the White House that he would reimpose US economic sanctions on Iran to undermine “a horrible one-sided deal that should have never, ever been made”.

The 2015 agreement worked out by the United States, five other world powers and Iran, lifted sanctions on Iran in exchange for Tehran limiting its nuclear program. The pact was designed to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear bomb.
