Iran to Compensate Families of Ukrainian Plane Crash Victims

Iran has announced it will compensate families of foreign victims of the Ukrainian passenger plane shot down outside Tehran in January, according to AFP.

Meanwhile, the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement said that a meeting was held between the foreign ministers of Afghanistan, Canada, United Kingdom, Ukraine and Sweden--as members of the International Coordination and Response Group--to discuss the matter.

“The Foreign Ministers of Afghanistan, Canada, United Kingdom, Ukraine and Sweden, as members of the International Coordination and Response Group, to support families of victims of Flight PS752, held a conference call for the downing of Ukrainian Flight PS752 and on the importance of state-to-state negotiations by signing a MoU on Cooperation regarding Negotiations on Reparations with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Afghan Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

The statement also said that by signing this MoU, the ministers reiterated their call for an investigation into the tragic plane crash, which resulted in the loss of 176 lives--including Afghan nationals--as well as for fair compensation to be paid to the families of victims.
