Kabul Protest Against Nizami Killing

Kabul residents on Monday protested before parliament against the death of Yar dil Nizami and two of his relatives allegedly at the hands of a police officer.

Nizami, a local commander and head of a civil action group, was killed on Friday in a clash in the Guldara district allegedly by Afghan Civil Order Police commander Zemarai Paikan, protestors claimed.

Nizami's cousin and nephew were also killed, and another seven family members were injured, protestors claimed.

Nizami's family, who lived in Kabul's Mir Bachakot district, were joined by protestors calling for Paikan to be punished.

"We ask the president, parliament and the Ministry of Interior to dismiss Zemarai Paikan and to punish him," one of the protestors told TOLOnews.

Ministry of Interior spokesperson Sediq Sediqi said the government had already started its investigation into the incident and will release its findings soon.

"The ministry's investigations are ongoing into this incident and soon the perpetrators will be revealed after the investigation," he said.

The protestors warned that they will continue their protests until justice is served, threating to force the closure of Kabul-North highway if the case is ignored.
