Sheba Radio Condemns Assault On Its Staff

The head of Sheba Radio has called on authorities to investigate an assault by unknown armed men on the station's guards in Kabul a few days ago.

According to radio officials, the incident took place on Saturday afternoon in Kart-e-Se in Kabul. They said armed men had been been stopped at a check point when tempers flared.

After assaulting guards and other staff members in the street the men fled the area, said Mamnon Maqsodi, the head of the radio station.

“Armed men, driving a car, wanted to pass the check point but the road is closed at the request of residents and the passport office; they wanted to get to the passport office but the security guards stopped them; the men beat our guards, bashed on the door and insulted our staff,” said Maqsodi.

He called on authorities to arrest and prosecute those responsible for the incident.

“We were busy with our lunch when suddenly noises were heard and when we went to the yard we saw unknown armed men; we were shocked and thought that a suicide attacker had gotten in,” said Jamila, a Radio reporter.

“We want government to provide security to reporters and to put a stop to such bullying,” said Anisa, another reporter.
