Mother of Killed Sons 'Will Not Forgive' Taliban

An elderly Afghan mother from Ab Kamari district of Badghis province who has lost three of her sons during the wars, on Thursday said that justice should not be sacrificed in the peace process with the insurgents.

The woman, named Gul Chehra, said that she will never forgive the killers of her sons, and asked the Afghan legal and judicial institutions to serve justice to their killers.

Gul Chera’s sons were serving in the ranks of the Afghan Local Police (ALP) and were killed in fighting against the Taliban.

Gul Chehra visits the graveyard and talks to the souls of her children.

“If the Taliban want to make peace, I don’t want the government to sacrifice the blood of my sons in peace talks. The government should help us,” she said.

Two of Gul Chehra’s sons were killed in a single day, and the third son was killed by the Taliban two years later.

“I will not forgive them (the Taliban), they must be hanged, I don’t forgive them,” said Gul Chehra.

Gul Chehra’s sons left ten children behind.

“90 percent of families in Ab Kamari have suffered from the war and have lost one of their loved ones,” said Khudadad Tayyeb, the district governor for Ab Kamari.

The Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) also said that the rights of the war victims should not be sacrificed in the peace process.

“No one has the right to ignore someone’s rights,” said Abdul Qader Rahimi, the head of AIHRC in Badghis.
