Nabil Suggests Prosecution of Campaigns Committing Fraud

In a twitter post on Monday, Presidential candidate Rahmatullah Nabil  suggested that all those election campaigns who are found guilty of committing “over 10 percent fraud” in the presidential elections must be brought up on charges of “national treason and violating Afghanistan’s constitution and the country’s national values.”

Although Nabil has not named any certain campaign, he has said that those campaigns who have caused all of this systematic fraud, and manipulated the government resources for campaigning, must face justice for their actions.

Officials from the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) have said that the body will call for an investigation of those involved in fraud after an assessment.

“Any type of ignorance about the votes of the people, and underestimating the fraudulent votes--or those involved in fraud--can damage the entire process,” said Ahmad Zubair Habibzada, an electoral expert.

Nevertheless, officials from Stability and Convergence election campaign, which is led by Abdullah Abdullah, have said that the Election Commission should decide on the fate of the fraudulent votes and those involved in the electoral violations.

“800,000 fraudulent votes make nearly 40 percent of the total number of the votes, there is no doubt it was carried out in a systematic way and those involved in the systematic fraud must be referred to the court,” said Noor Rahman Akhlaqi, member of Stability and Convergence team.

“If someone possibly cheated in favor of the State Building team, he is not the supporter of State Building team and he is the enemy of State Building team,” said Mohammad Omar Dawoudzai, head of the State Building Campaign.

“There are some individuals who will be indicted, Qasim Ilyasi, spokesman for the IECC said, “Of the 189 complaints, 90 of them will be criminal.”

The Independent Election Commission (IEC) has previously said that those committing fraud will be introduced to the legal and judicial institutions once the process is completed.
