New Ghazni Police Chief has Open Criminal Case Against Him

The Ministry of Interior Affairs appointed Khalil Andarabi as the new police chief for Ghazni province, which was a controversial move because Andarabi is a defendant in an open court case for misuse of authority, and he has been accused and tried for embezzlement and for supporting the Taliban.

In 2016, he was accused of involvement in transporting the former Taliban intelligence commander for Kunduz, Qari Zahir, to Baghlan province in an official police vehicle.

His case landed in the primary court in April 2017 and he was sentenced to three years in jail. But in July 2018 he was found not guilty by the appeals court of the Anti-Corruption Criminal Justice Center.

The Attorney General's Office says Andarabi still has a case open for misuse of his authority.

“The case has been sent to security and defense agencies for further clarity after an investigation,” said Jamshid Rasuli, a spokesman for the Attorney General's Office.

Sources told TOLOnews that Andarabi had four cases at the Attorney General's Office.
