No Aid Delivered by Govt in Kapisa: Residents

Flood-hit residents in Nijrab district of Kapisa province on Friday blamed the government for not providing any aid to those affected due to recent flooding in the province.

The residents said they have lost all their belongings.

Roads and infrastructures were also badly damaged in Nejrab, according to residents.

“They took our phone numbers and ID cards, but nothing was given to our families,” said Qamar Gul, a Nijrab resident.

“All the people are poor. Many of them are dependent to agriculture,” said Hayatullah, a Nijrab resident.

Abdul Bashir a resident of Dara-e-Kalan village of Nijrab said he lost his home and agricultural lands in the flooding.

“All our belongings are under the debris,” said Ziaulhaq, a Nijrab resident.

Local officials said that over 70 families were affected in the flooding in Nejrab with many families lost all their homes and livelihoods including agricultural lands.

“Cash was distributed to families of those martyred and wounded. The aid delivery continues,” said Ahmad Tamim Azimi, a spokesman for the State Ministry for Natural Disasters Management.

Government statistics show that over 200 people were killed and over 190 others were wounded in the recent flooding in 15 provinces of the country.

Parwan, Kapisa and Panjshir were on top of the hardly-hit provinces.
