Noor Criticizes Karzai's Statements

Balkh Governor Atta Muhammad Noor has criticized the statements of President Karzai during the 13th anniversary of Ahmad Shah Massoud's martyrdom on Tuesday, claiming his words were against the framework of democracy.

"Our government period is complete and we call for a new government; a new government can be brought by Dr. Abdullah Abdullah and Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai," Karzai had said on Massoud Day. "Unity and solidarity of these two, along with reaching an agreement would be great if it happens today, so call on them to reach an agreement."

Noor declared that Karzai's statements in this regard were against "the principles of democracy," stressing that before a government is formed those responsible for electoral fraud should be prosecuted.

"Although I respect Mr. President a lot, I am very saddened because of his recent decisions," he said. "Mr. President's recent decisions do not suit a democratic, educated and religious Afghan man. If our President prioritizes ethnic means of power transition over democracy, then what can we hope for the future of the country?"

Moreover, Noor warned that he will never accept results of a fraudulent election.

"We will not accept the results of a fraudulent election and we will fight against it," he asserted while calling on the international community to bring to trial those responsible for fraud.

Presidential candidate Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai's campaign team has called Noor's statement's "irresponsible and baseless."

"We only consider the perspective of the officials of Dr. Abdullah's team, not just anyone who claims to represent him," Ghani's electoral team's spokesman, Tahir Zahir, said.

Atta Muhammad Noor is one of the key allies of Abdullah and has called him "the winner" of the elections on multiple occasions.
