On Saturday, MPs in parliament voted against their earlier decision to refer the head of the parliament secretariat's case regarding corruption to the Attorney General's Office.

Based on their findings, MPs stated last week that parliament speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi had to repay over five million AFs to parliament and the case involving parliament's head secretariat should be referred to the AGO. 

“Those who want (Khodal Nazar) Nusrat to be introduced to the AGO hold green cards and those who do not want this hold red cards. By two opposing votes (green) is approved that he should not be introduced,” Ibrahimi said.

The decision however drew an outcry from some MPs who said it was against the law.

“It means we are insulting ourselves and the fact-finding team. Dear speaker, if it continues like this, please break the decision on Humayun and Lalai and you also should not pay the 5.4 million AFs,” Irfanullah Irfan, second deputy secretary of parliament said - referring to two other MPs who have been accused of illegally removing parliament TV archive material.

“Speaker! You are stifling the people,” Ghulam Hussian Nasiri, another MP said.

Following the MPs outcry, Ibrahimi asked parliament's head secretariat to hand himself over to the AGO. However Nusrat refused to accept this request.

“I have not done this (corruption) in my office and I am not ashamed. Such negligence happens in every office,” said Nusrat.

At the end of the session, the head of the fact-finding team and a number of MPs walked out of the house and said the decision taken over Nusrat was against the law and they would not accept it.
