At least one policeman and two attackers were killed in an attack on a police checkpoint in western Herat province on Tuesday morning, local security officials said.

Three attackers launched the attack on a police checkpoint in the south of Herat city and clashed with police, said Abdul Ahad Walizada, a spokesman for provincial police chief.

“Two attackers were killed in the attack and another who was wounded has fled the area,” Walizada said, adding that “one policeman was also killed in the attack.”

However, no group including the Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.
