People with Disabilities in Maidan Wardak Complain of Not Receiving Support

People with disabilities in Maidan Wardak said the government is neglecting them and they have not received their support payments.

Abdul Mateen is 42 and is a member of the association of people with disabilities. He participated in a ceremony at the International Day of the Disabled in Maidan city, and has complained about the bad behavior toward the disabled, saying they are deprived of any services.

“People with disabilities are faced with lots of challenges and governmental and non-governmental organizations don’t cooperate with us,” said Abdul Mateen, a Maidan Wardak resident.

“We ask for them to make our support payments,” said Wali Mohammad, a Maidan Wardak resident.

Meanwhile, local officials of Wardak and supporting organizations said that they increased their activities to support people with disabilities.

“If the disability is congenital, or the disability is from war or an accident--for everybody we provide care and make payments to them,” said Niaz Mohammad Hejrat, head of the Martyrs and Disabled department in Wardak.

“We have a plan to send a coach to their houses and teach them some abilities,” said Mohammad Ghani Amin, head of the people with disabilities department in Sweden.

According to recent numbers of OCHA, 15 percent of people are disabled in Afghanistan.
