After the broadcast of a TOLOnews report about the high rate of eye problems--more than 100 residents--in a village in the Deh Rawood district of Uruzgan province, a group of doctors from the Ministry of Public Health went to Deh Rawood to treat the residents of this village.
Officials said that the cause of blindness is hereditary and those who cannot be treated inside the country will be sent abroad.
“If they are operated on in foreign countries, the result is the same, we do their operations here in their homes, we have facilities and everything,” said Agha Mohammad Totakhil, head of the eye care section of the Ministry of Public Health.
The family members who have been provided with treatment are happy and said that they could not afford their treatment.
“My father had an eye problem and we did not have the money to take him to other countries to treat it. I'm glad that these doctors are here now,” said Faridullah, a member of a family in Uruzgan tgat has a high rate of blindness.
“We are so happy that treatment services are provided for the blind in this district,” said Abdul Karim, an Uruzgan resident.
A month ago a group of doctors, with the financial cooperation of Australia, went to Uruzgan, where they treated 300 eye patients in Tarinkot city hospital.
