Construction of Major Power Plant Begins in Jawzjan

The construction of a large power plant has begun in Aqcha district of Jawzjan province.

Officials from the Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS) said at the project's inauguration ceremony that the power plant will cost 390 million afghani and will be completed within a year.

According to the officials, this project also includes the transfer of a 220 kV line from Turkmenistan and its distribution network.

"Currently, we do not have any foreign consultants in any department. All projects are being executed by Afghans," said Abdul Rahman Rahmani, head of the commercial department of DABS.

"The total cost of this project is 390 million afghani. This project consists of three parts: the distribution network, the power transmission line, and the substation," said Safiullah Ahmadzai, acting operational director of DABS.

Local officials in Jawzjan, expressing their happiness over the start of the construction of this project, said that with the provision of electricity, many conveniences will be created for the residents of the five districts of this province.

Gul Haidar Shafaq, the governor of Jawzjan, said: "The maintenance of these projects is also the responsibility of the people. The work on the line and towers and road projects that have begun is not only the government's responsibility, people must also cooperate in maintaining them."

"When this power plant is built and electricity reaches us, the carpet industry will grow 100 percent," said Mohammad Anwar Rahimi, a tribal elder.

This is the largest power project being implemented since the Islamic Emirate took over the country. With the implementation of this project, job opportunities will be provided for nearly 100 people, DABS said.
