Abdul Majid Akhund, the acting Minister of Martyrs and Disabled, during his visit to Mazar-e-Sharif to assess the situation of disabled individuals and families of martyrs, said that since the beginning of the current solar year, seven billion afghani have been paid to them in salaries.
The acting Minister of Martyrs and Disabled said: "The budget approved for us by the leadership of the Islamic Emirate is 12 billion afghani, and in the first six months of the year, we have paid 7 billion of it to the families of martyrs and disabled individuals, and the remaining funds will also be distributed to them."
The Head of Martyrs and Disabled in Balkh said that approximately 9,000 eligible individuals have been identified in the province, and nearly 7,000 of them have received their salaries since the beginning of the current solar year.
Jan Mohammad Hikmat, head of Martyrs and Disabled in Balkh, said, "This year, we have processed the documents of around 4,000 disabled individuals and 2,800 families of martyrs whose documents were complete, and we have paid their salaries. We are working to resolve issues with others’ documents and will pay their salaries from the available budget once the issues are resolved."
However, some disabled individuals are calling for the creation of employment and educational opportunities.
Abdul Rahim Safa, who is blind, said: "There should be agreements with foreign organizations working in Afghanistan to help disabled individuals learn professional skills to improve their lives. Additionally, disabled individuals should be given a share in foreign educational scholarships."
Sayed Mohammad Yazdan Parast, an activist for the rights of disabled individuals, said: "The lack of special schools for the blind and deaf in most provinces of the country is a serious challenge for disabled individuals, and we hope the acting government will pay serious attention to this matter."
Meanwhile, some disabled individuals in the country have identified the lack of access to education, healthcare services, and the deprivation of disability rights as significant challenges they face, and they are calling for these issues to be addressed.
