A commercial market in Jalalabad city has been built by an investor at the cost of 350 million afghani on more than one acre of government land and has now been opened.
Jalalabad Municipality says that more than 700,000 Afghanis are deposited into the government's treasury from this market each month.
According to the municipality, this six-story market contains 280 shops, leased to a businessman for ten years.
Momin Hamid, Deputy Mayor of Jalalabad, said: "Every month, 715,000 afghani are handed over to the government. This process will continue in the same manner, and in the next thirty years, the entire market, along with all its facilities, will be under the control of the municipality."
Qimat Khan, the investor, said: "This land belongs to the municipality, and we have invested 350 million afghani in it. Each month, 715,000 afghani are delivered to the municipality."
Some residents of Jalalabad consider the construction of such markets significant for the city's beauty and urge authorities to prevent the unauthorized construction of markets.
Mohammad Sharif, a resident of Jalalabad, said: "Building such a market in the city is a great step for the country and the province. The government should renovate the old markets."
Samiullah Durani, another resident of Jalalabad, said: "Markets should be built in a modern style. New and modern designs must be implemented accordingly."
According to officials, in the future, three more commercial markets will be constructed in various parts of Jalalabad city to enhance urban beauty. The designs for these markets have been sent to the center for approval.
