The Tori Dam in Qalat, the capital of Zabul province, which was built at a cost of 127 million Afghanis, was inaugurated on Thursday in a ceremony by Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs.
In this ceremony, which was attended by several other officials of the Islamic Emirate, Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar called on the people to support the caretaker government in the implementation of large national projects.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, the Islamic Emirate continues to work on several developmental projects in various parts of the country, which have created job opportunities for many citizens.
Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar said in the ceremony: "We seek your support for the Islamic Emirate in every area where you have the ability and can support the Islamic Emirate, so do support us."
The Tori Dam has the capacity to store 2.9 million cubic meters of water, which will irrigate 560 hectares of agricultural land and also generate 61 kilowatts of electricity.
Abdul Latif Mansour, acting Minister of Energy and Water, said at the ceremony that the construction of this dam was completed with a cost of 127 million Afghani from the national budget.
Mansour added: "God granted us success, and we were honest, and in both provinces, Zabul and Paktika, we handed over this dam for utilization, and we inaugurated it a month ago."
Mohammad Younus Akhundzada, the acting Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, said: "Our effort is to serve Zabul a lot, meaning that every ministry should serve within its framework."
The residents of Zabul consider the construction of this dam to be impactful in the growth and economic development of their province.
Abdul Salam, a resident, said: "By the blessing of this dam, God is merciful, and the problems of the people will be solved."
Abdul Latif, another resident of Zabul, said: "We were facing drought, the lands dried up, and those who were farmers, if they could earn 1 million before, now they cannot even earn 100,000."
The acting Minister of Energy and Water also mentioned at the inauguration ceremony of the Tori Dam that to raise the level of underground water in this province, they will soon begin the survey work for the Khurni Dam as well.
