The fiber-optic project, with a budget of 40 million afghani, has commenced in Sar-e Pol province and is expected to be completed within the next five months.
The head of Afghan Telecom in the northern zone said that this project spans 54 kilometers, making Sar-e Pol the 27th province to gain access to fiber-optic services.
Mohammad Naseem Nazari, head of Afghan Telecom in the northern zone, said, “This project extends 54 kilometers from Jawzjan to Sar-e Pol, funded by Afghan Telecom Emirati Company. This is a key infrastructure for the company, connecting 26 provinces so far.”
Wali Mohammad Sarwari, Afghan Telecom’s representative in Jawzjan, said: “We offer 50 GB of internet at a cost of 600 afghani. Our sites in districts are active, and work on sites in Jawzjan is ongoing.”
Noor Ahmad, a representative of the contracting company, said, “In this area, we have employed all personnel and machinery locally. Around 2,000 people, directly and indirectly, will be engaged in this project.”
Some residents of Sar-e Pol emphasized the importance of expanding internet services in remote areas of the country and called on the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology to improve quality and reduce internet costs.
Wali Mohammad, a resident of Sar-e Pol, said, “Previously, prices were high. It would be good if it became cheaper and stronger. We want it to improve further; it’s a great convenience.”
Zabihullah, another resident of Sar-e Pol, said, “Internet speed is increasing, costs are decreasing, and its efficiency is improving. Now, everyone can access it. With lower rates, we can easily access social media and use it for the needs we have.”
Previously, residents of certain districts and remote areas of the country had expressed concerns about lack of access to telecommunications and internet services and urged officials to resolve this issue.
