Remote District in Bamiyan Faces Severe Healthcare Access Issues

Residents of Waras District in Bamiyan have expressed concerns about limited access to healthcare services in the area.

They report that inadequate facilities, long distances to medical centers, and harsh weather conditions constantly put patients’ lives at risk.

Waras, one of the most remote and largest districts in Bamiyan, is located in the southwestern part of the province. Hundreds of families scattered across this district lack access to healthcare services, forcing them to travel long distances for treatment.

Mohammad Ali, a resident of Waras, said, “We have no access to healthcare, and the nearest facility is far from us. In winter, we face many difficulties. It takes three hours to get there, and the center doesn’t even have an ambulance.”

Mohammad Hussain, another resident, said, “Our healthcare challenges are severe, especially in winter. If someone falls ill, the long journey puts the patient’s life in danger.”

Abdullah, another resident, said, “We are compelled to travel long distances to transport patients. Our area has serious healthcare deficiencies.”

However, Bamiyan’s Public Health Director attributes the challenges to the mountainous terrain and the dispersed population in the district.

Jafar Zaki, the Public Health Director of Bamiyan, stated: “This district is mountainous, and families live scattered across it. We are truly facing challenges, and currently, home births are being assisted by local midwives.”

Previously, residents of Punjab, Yakawlang, and Saighan districts in Bamiyan have also complained about the distance to healthcare facilities and the lack of medical services, calling for greater attention from authorities.
