Several families in Meezan district of Zabul have been forced to leave their homes due to a decline in groundwater levels.

Residents of the Makark area in this district say that due to the lack of water management and ongoing droughts, they are facing serious challenges.

According to them, groundwater levels have now dropped to 250 meters, and without the construction of retention dams, they will be forced to leave their homes.

Abdullah, a resident of Meezan district in Zabul, said, “In this area, finding water has become very difficult, and people are struggling even to find clean drinking water.”

Sayed Gul, another resident of Meezan district, added, “Our request is for dams to be built near residential areas to control water and for the supply of drinking water to be prioritized.”

Local officials have begun constructing a retention dam in each district of this province to increase groundwater levels.

Hekmatullah Rahbar, head of Zabul's Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department, said, “Based on a special directive from the leadership of the Islamic Emirate, a dam will be built in every district of Zabul to control water, raise groundwater levels, and alleviate people’s problems.”

The recent droughts have had a severe impact on the people of Zabul, most of whom rely on agriculture for their livelihoods, leaving lasting negative effects on their lives.
