A number of unemployed disabled individuals in Chaman have threatened self-immolation after sewing their mouths shut.
They state that restrictions imposed on the Chaman-Spin Boldak crossing have caused them severe economic hardships.
Lali, the leader of the protesting disabled individuals in Chaman, said: "Help us, allow us to work. We have tried every form of protest, but nothing worked. This time, we will pour oil on ourselves and end this life."
Meanwhile, members of the Chaman Protest Movement have accused the Pakistani government of suppressing the local economy and demanded the reopening of the Spin Boldak-Chaman crossing as before.
Sadiq Khan Achakzai, the spokesperson for the Chaman Protest Movement, said: "People in Chaman don’t even have food for the night. Unemployment has reached a level where finding even a single morsel for dinner has become extremely difficult."
Mohammad Azam Khan, a senior member of the Chaman Protest Movement, said: "The Pakistani government is now planning to evict certain individuals from Chaman under the pretext of them being Afghan. But we tell them that Afghans have returned to their own land, and according to your own claim, they cannot be removed from their soil."
These protests have been ongoing for over a year and a half, with demonstrators in Chaman demanding solutions to their problems. However, the Pakistani government has yet to respond to their demands.
