Kamal Khan Dam's Third Phase Inaugurated in Nimroz

The Ministry of Energy and Water said that the third phase of the Kamal Khan Dam in Nimroz province has been inaugurated.

At the inauguration ceremony, acting Minister of Energy and Water, Abdul Latif Mansoor, emphasized the importance of managing the country's water resources.

"The construction and reconstruction of dams are among our responsibilities. In addition to providing energy, we are also focused on better management of the country's water resources. Fortunately, today we are witnessing the completion of this vital project,” stated Mansoor.

According to the ministry, this phase is the final stage of the dam’s construction and includes the installation of power-generating turbines.

Additionally, the acting Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock Ataullah Omari highlighted the importance of efficient water use, stating: "We must ensure that water is delivered to agricultural lands and residential areas in a way that prevents wastage."

Water shortages for drinking and agriculture have long been a serious challenge in Nimroz. Local officials say that severe droughts in recent years have had a negative impact on farmers and the local population. The completion of this dam has brought renewed hope to the people.

"If the ministers prioritize water issues, development and prosperity will follow,” stated Mohammad Qasim Khalid, the governor of Nimroz.

The inauguration of the final phase of the Kamal Khan Dam has brought joy to the people of Nimroz. Many residents emphasize the importance of proper water management for agricultural development.

"We are very happy that this dam has been completed and that water will now reach our farmlands. Nimroz has suffered from drought for years,” Jumma Khan, a resident of Nimroz.

"This project is great news for farmers, and we are pleased with its completion,” Mohammad Yousuf, another resident, added.

The Kamal Khan Dam is built on the Helmand River in the Chahar Burjak district of Nimroz. It has a storage capacity of 52 million cubic meters of water and can generate six megawatts of electricity.

Additionally, it can irrigate over 170,000 hectares of farmland, playing a crucial role in boosting agriculture and the livelihoods of the local population.
