Several orphaned and needy families in Jowzjan say that due to poverty and economic hardships, they are unable to afford even a single meal.
These families are calling on charitable organizations and businesspeople to provide more assistance during the days of Ramadan.
Khadija, who is responsible for a family of six, says that due to financial difficulties, she cannot cover her family's living expenses and is waiting for support from charities and philanthropists.
“Please pay attention to our situation and help my orphans. I have no one to support us,” Khadija said in an interview with TOLOnews.
Meanwhile, other families, whose daily income does not exceed 100 afghani, say they have come to this location hoping to receive food for iftar.
“I have eight orphans. Some days, I find food, and some days, I don’t. Their father had cancer. I did everything I could, but he couldn’t be cured and passed away,” said Atefa, a woman in need.
“I have orphaned children. My husband was martyred. It would be very helpful if generous people could assist us,” stated Farida another woman.
Local officials have also called on charities, businesspeople, and philanthropists to step forward and help these struggling families.
“Charity should first be given to close relatives and neighbors. We also urge wealthy individuals to help those in need, said Saifuddin Mutasem, head of Information and Culture in Jowzjan.
“The Prophet of Islam (PBUH) said that if you provide iftar for a fasting person, you will receive great rewards. Now, if we consider helping 200 families, hundreds of fasting individuals will benefit from this aid,” said Sayed Qorban Sadat, a religious scholar, emphasized.
According to local officials in Jowzjan, charitable organizations and businesspeople have already started distributing food aid to thousands of orphaned and needy families since the first day of Ramadan, and these efforts will continue until the end of the month.
