The Department of the Virtue and Vice in Badakhshan Province has urged residents to refrain from engaging in inappropriate and un-Islamic customs and practices during the Eid holidays.
In a statement, the department listed actions such as women appearing without hijab, egg fights, firecrackers, shaving beards, playing music in cars, visiting friends’ houses for funeral prayers during Eid, and selling expired goods as “undesirable and un-Islamic practices.”
“Sisters who roam the markets without wearing a hijab are committing a wrongdoing and will face legal action by the department’s officers. We hope such instances will not be repeated,” said Shir Ahmad Jawad, the head of the department in Badakhshan.
Some residents of Badakhshan have expressed support for this decision, calling it a step toward preserving religious values.
“We are happy that aimless wandering and firecracker games during Eid are being addressed,” said Hedayatullah, a resident of Badakhshan.
“Visiting the homes of those who have lost loved ones for funeral prayers during Eid is an inappropriate custom,” stated Beik Mohammad, another resident of the province.
"Preventing certain social mistakes is a positive action, and we support it," said Sa’adat, a resident of Badakhshan.
The Department for the of Virtue and of Vice has announced that its officers will monitor the enforcement of these guidelines during the Eid holidays and will take legal action against violators.
