Seven Taliban, Three Soldiers Killed In Herat Clash

Herat provincial officials said Monday that at least seven Taliban fighters and three security force members were killed in a clash on Sunday.

According to officials the clash started in Chishti Sharif district when security forces were ambushed by the Taliban. 

Officials said that two Afghan National Army soldiers and an Afghan National Police soldier were killed and eight other security force members were wounded in the clash. 

Taliban has not yet commented on the clash. 

Neighboring province Faryab was also dealing with security problems on Monday after residents claimed they closed the doors of key government organizations and the United Nations Assistance Mission (UNAMA) office on Sunday.

According to them, the Taliban is advancing on the capital Maimana and have already seized control of the only route into the city. They said the Maimana-Jawzjan highway is closed and no government officials or security forces can get in or out of the area.
