At least four National Directorate of Security (NDS) force members were killed in a suicide attack in Kabul city early Thursday morning, local police officials confirmed.
The attack took place at about 5am local time after a suicide bomber targeted an NDS convoy in Bagh-e-Daoud in Company area in PD5 of Kabul city, a spokesman for Kabul police chief Hashmat Stanekzai confirmed.
“The investigation is ongoing into the attack and more details will be shared soon,” Stanekzai said.
TOLOnews reporter Gulabuddin Ghubar visited the scene after the explosion and said the target had reportedly been the 01 unit of the National Directorate of Security (NDS). The convoy had been on its way back to their base after carrying out an operation.
He said shops and houses in the area sustained serious damage.
However, shopkeepers of the damaged buildings were on the scene early and had already started cleaning up operations.
“The road re-opened to traffic after nearly four hours after being blocked by security forces,” Ghubar said.
The Taliban has claimed responsibly for the attack.
The attack comes after the NDS’s 01 unit has carried out numerous operations in the past two months including a number ofnights raids in central Wardak and Logar province - in which dozens of Taliban members were killed or injured.
