Taliban Shadow District Governor Killed in Badakhshan

Mohammad Sangaryar, Taliban’s shadow district governor was killed by Afghan security forces in north-eastern Badakhshan province on Wednesday night, local officials confirmed.

In addition, two other Taliban members were killed in the operation.

The incident took place in Shohada district of the province while Sangaryar and other Taliban fighters were on their way to the district from Wardoj district, provincial police chief Saber Aryan said, adding that “the other Taliban (members) escaped the area but Sangaryar and two other Taliban were killed in theclash.”

“The clash between the security forces and the Taliban lasted for nearly half an hour and (once it was over) the forces discovered the bodies of Sangaryar and two other Taliban with weapons,” he said.

 “There were no casualties among security forces in the clash,” he added.

However, the officials did not provide further details.

Sangaryar was a resident of Shohada and was the shadow governor by the Taliban for the district. He was involved in many attacks against security forces in Wardoj and other districts of the province.

The provincial police chief said security forces confronted the Taliban in Shohada district while they were traveling from Wardoj district.
