At least two US soldiers were killed in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, US Forces--Afghanistan said in a statement.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, however, preliminary reports do not indicate it was caused by enemy fire, the statement said.

In accordance with US Department of Defense policy, the names of the service members killed in action are being withheld until 24 hours after notification of next of kin is complete, it added.

The Taliban in a statement also on Wednesday claimed that they shot down a US chinook helicopter in Chark district of Logar province, adding that a number of soldiers have been killed.

The US currently have about 12,000 troops in Afghanistan engaged in training, advising and assisting Afghan security forces and performing counter-terrorism operations.
