Woman Tortured in Faryab: Officials

A 17-year-old woman, who got married a year ago in Faryab province, said on Wednesday that her husband and father-in-law tortured her over the past six months.

Lal Bibi, who was admitted to a hospital said that she was tortured by boiling water and a hot skewer.

“They bit me and punched me and kicked me. They also hit me with a hot skewer,” added Lal Bibi,

Lal Bibi`s father said that in the past 20 days even her nails were pulled out.

Fateh Khan, the father of the victim, said: “I was not aware, and they showed me the girl now, she said to me…’they hit me,’ she had very bad bleeding.”

Maryam, mother of victim said: “She was not to blame, but they hit her every day, and we took her to the hospital.”

Meanwhile, Maria Noori, chief of the women’s directorate in Faryab province, said that Lal Bibi’s veins have been damaged also.

“The doctors said that if we not cut her feet may he dies,” added Noori.

Abdul Karim Yorash, spokesman of Faryab police, said: “We have arrested her father in-law, but could not arrest her husband because the area was under the control of the Taliban.”

The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission's (AIHRC) described the event as “shocking.”
