On International Labor Day, a number of Kabul workers, men and women, marched the streets protesting against the government for overlooking their problems and needs.
The protestors asked the government to pay more attention to the working class.
During today's celebration of Labor Day, Kabul Municipality named a street, located between Mili Bus Square and Eidgah Mosque, Workers Street.
Kabul Municipality officials said that the government must understand the working class and the youth of the society. They believe that progress will not be made neglecting the people.
Khozhman Olomi, deputy of Kabul municipality services said, "There is no attention, at all, on the social classes of the country, including the workers."
He adds that the lives of the workers will improve once we have small and big factories.
During the meantime, Chairman of the National Workers Union of Afghanistan, Abdul Marrouf Qaderi, said the lack of working factories and presence of foreign workers in the country has increased unemployment in Afghanistan.
The protestors demanded for equality, fighting against discrimination and solving their problems.
A protestor, who lost his feet in result of an explosion, told TOLOnews that he/she is a baker, but does not have a proper shop to bake in.
Hanifa, an employee of Millie Bus—a government ran bus enterprise—asks that the president increase their salaries.
"My message to the president is that you've neglected the workers in the past ten years," she added. "Pay an additional one month's salary for the law ranking staffs of the government."
Civil Society Activist Suraya said that the people's basic rights should be taken into consideration.
"The workers of Afghanistan are the backbone of the society," she said.
