Herat Theatre Show Reflects Impacts of War in Afghanistan

A group of artists on Saturday performed a theatre show where they tried to reflect the impacts of four decades of war in Afghanistan.

The show was organized to mark the anniversary of the 1979 uprising in the city of Herat against the former communist regime in Afghanistan.

“The theatre show indicates that the people want peace. The international community makes efforts to bring peace to Afghanistan. The show is aimed at portraying the people’s frustration from violence,” the provincial director of information and culture, Faraidoon Fakoori, said.

“The main purpose of the show is to demonstrate that we are tired of war and to express our desire for peace,” said Roqia Hassanzada, an artist.

The show was held in the city of Herat where a car bomb attack happened on Friday evening, leaving seven people dead and over 60 others wounded.

“The theatre show is quite significant to develop the culture of peace building and will help us to achieve real peace,” said Jawad Samadi, a Herat resident.

“At this juncture that the issue of peace is extremely high, it is good that the people convey their message of peace to the government and the Taliban and the world. The people in Herat and all Afghans are seeking peace. We hope that peace will prevail soon,” said Sayed Taha Sadiq, an MP.
