Afghan Movie Director Latif Ahmadi Hospitalized

Afghanistan’s famed film director, Latif Ahmadi, has been hospitalized in Kabul for high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney disease, his family confirmed on Thursday.

Doctors said that Mr. Latif is in stable condition.

“We are trying to control his blood pressure, diabetes and to restore his kidneys to a normal condition,” said Abdul Wahid Sediqqi, his doctor.

“He worked on film scripts for years, his recent work is the film Torah. He completed 80 percent of the shooting,” said Hadia Ahmadi, Latif Ahmadi’s daughter-in-law.

During his 48-year career Latif Ahmadi directed over 50 films.

“When engineer Latif migrated, he still made films for the sake of Afghanistan. If I say he is the father of Afghanistan’s cinema, it is right,” said Akmal Rahmani, a cinema artist.

Latif Ahmadi, 71, has two sons and one daughter.

His children live abroad.
