National Theater Appeals to Caretaker Govt for Restoration Funds

The Kabul National Theater called on the caretaker government to address their challenges.

Officials said that the activities of this administration are continuing normally, but they are facing some problems.

"The theater staff used to number around 200 people in the past, and since then it has decreased by 170 - 150 people. The number of theater staff during the republic was reduced to 50 people and has now decreased to 47 people," said Sayed Abdul Rauf Sadat, the theater coordination officer.

Sayat said Kabul Nandari Theater, which was called the second most beautiful theater in the world during the times of Amanullah Khan and Zahir Shah, has turned into ruins today and the officials of the caretaker government must rebuild it.

The theater coordination officer said: "We have a very beautiful hall which has now turned into ruins, and it is called Kabul Nandari Theatre, which existed during the times of King Amanullah and Zahir Shah."

At the same time, some artists said that in the past nearly three years, meaning after the Islamic Emirate took over the country, they have performed nearly sixty plays.

"We are trying to keep the foundation of the theater strong in any way possible and we have continued our work normally in all conditions," said Abdul Wahid, one of the artists.

"Theater is derived from the problems of society and it expresses them so that the pains of society are healed," said Qurban Mohammadi, another artist.

"The National Theater administration currently operates under the Ministry of Information and Culture, and I myself have performed more than 50 to 60 plays," said Shafiqullah, another artist.
