The Ministry of Information and Culture announced that the reinforcement work on the Minaret of Jam in Ghor province will begin in the near future.
Khabib Ghufran, spokesperson for the Ministry, said that the Deputy Minister of Art and Culture recently led a delegation to Ghor province to visit the Minaret of Jam.
According to him, current assessments show that the condition of the Minaret of Jam is good; however, he called on international cultural organizations, especially UNESCO, to fulfill their responsibilities properly in reinforcing the minaret.
The Ministry’s spokesperson added: "Recently, based on the directive of the Prime Minister of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, a multi-departmental committee has been appointed to develop a plan to permanently protect the
Minaret of Jam in Ghor from potential threats, and work on this will begin soon."
The Minaret of Jam in Ghor is considered one of the country's ancient monuments and was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site 22 years ago.
Some archaeologists and cultural experts emphasize the preservation of ancient minarets, particularly the Minaret of Jam in Ghor province.
Abdul Rahman Ehsas, a cultural affairs expert, said: "Immediate action must be taken for its preservation, and this is the responsibility of the Ministry of Information and Culture since this historical monument is also a UNESCO site."
Kitab Khan Faizi, the head of the Kushani International Research Center, said: "This minaret is of great historical and strategic significance, and from an artistic perspective, no similar artistry has been applied to any other historical monument in Afghanistan."
This comes after recent floods severely damaged the Minaret of Jam, and some residents and cultural figures of Ghor province have consistently expressed concerns about its collapse.
